Judge Becker, 1933-2006
[Judge Becker's obituary from Saturday's Inquirer.]
Ann Meredith of Lights of Liberty calls to report that Edward R. Becker, senior judge of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, crusader for Independence Mall's makeover, Northeast Philadlphia resident and one heck of play-by-ear pianist, is gone. He died today after a three-year battle with cancer.
On Thursday, we praised the judge on the editorial page - remembering his contributions to freeing the historic area from excessive post-9/11 secuirty measures.
Our earlier posting on the judge included a dandy photo of him sitting (standing, actually) for his official portrait at Yale law school, his alma mater.
Go here to read the touching and humorous recollections about the judge from U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter (R., Pa), where Specters notes that he and the judge commuted to Penn on the Frankford El.
